    Ntbackup.exe installation?

    Hi...
I just downloaded ntbackup.exe from Microsoft.

I can't install it on my HP Win 7 64bit system.

Microsoft mentions a step-by-step process that is needed first before it will install.
This file ntsnapi.dll (if spelled correctly)

I was unable to follow the step-by-step instructions.
I just couldn't find all the steps as given.
    I couldn't find the same options/locations/names...only the first 2.

I suppose MS assumes I know what I'm doing...that is a mistake...so it cannot install.Instead I get a message if I want to go to MS to get (the same) instructions that I cannot complete.

I would appreciate anyone's help with this. I'd like to be able to run the backup program.
I have no idea...it also would be nice to know the options and complete process for baking up choice of files...

I also just downloaded from MS Synctoy...and installed easily...have not tired it out yet...I made a copy of the instructions as given here at 7s Forum.

With much appreciation...thanks for your help...strum101

    Northernsoul55...
I appreciate you reply and all the various references...thanks
I tired to download the ntbackup update. It would stop the download with a message "KB97674 is already installed on this computer.
There isn't anything listed in the Start program listing...even looked into accessories. Even tried the command prompt with and without administrator. I guess thats for batch files only. At at the end of my understanding.
I've been thinking about SyncToy later...
I appreciate your helpful reply references...strum101

Simply insert the XP CD and run NTBACKUP.MSI (it might look like just "Ntbackup") program from the folder D:\Valueadd\msft\ntbackup where D: is the letter of your CD drive. This will launch the Windows Backup Utility Installation Wizard, which will install the utility automatically. When it is finished, click "Finish."

Now you can click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup, and the Backup Utility will start.

Microsoft approves this in KB Article Q302700.

Alternatively, you can install Windows Backup from Service Pack 2 (SP2). To do this, make sure that you have the full network install version of XP SP2 - "WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe", size 272 MBytes. You can download this from :-
Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center
