restore boots to black screen

I did a factory default restore. Says successful, reboots, installs devices, starts settings. Then it is supposed to reboot to finish settings but goes to black screen with audio. I hear 1 ping, then Windows music. Can go no further. It shows 100% restore and update at beginning. I have a gateway desktop DX series quad core, 8 gig ram, 1 gig hd, win 7 home. Any help appreciated.

Thinking out load here...sounds similar to some Win 7 install (from DVD) problems I have on my desktop systems.

Came to find out that the Dell monitors cannot be used to do a fresh install of Win 7 - does just as you describe (black screen, sound). My solution has been to hook up a "basic" monitor, install Windows then change monitors back.

If you have an external monitor port, try using that. If it works, then load and activate the laptop graphics drivers.

Hi dianatyler,

Welcome to the community.

It seems video drivers are not loading properly on the system. Please disconnect and reconnect the monitor or follow the advise by GEWB.

Also, let us know if you are using VGA,DVI or HDMI to connect. If possible use a VGA connection to connect and once the proper drivers are loaded then you can use the DVI or HDMI.

Lastly, you could try if you can boot to the safe mode and then update the correct video drivers for your system:

Safe Mode

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.
