How can I backup up to surplus of a second RAID1 disk which is larger?

If I have a 250 MB and a 1 TB disk running Intel RST RAID1, the first 250 MB of the 1 TB is used for the RAID1.

How could I place backups onto the 750 MB surplus of the second larger disk of the RAID1 mirrored Volume?

I know ideally both disks should be the same size. Finally with RAID1 working, I would like to also utilize this second disk surplus.

Utilities such as Partition Magic provides access to this surplus area on the second larger disk where I have created a partition.

Windows 7 seems to simply display the two RAID1 disks as a single Volume. This seems to be what is simply presented within Macrium Reflect -- image > destination > folder > browse for folder.

How can I specify this surplus partition from a program like Macrium Reflect?

Or, what other good backup program with a Scheduler could I use to place backup files onto this disk location?

    Hi,

I wouldn't do it this way - the reason is that both disks in the RAID1 array are accessed equally making the write time for both physical disks slow. Thus, trying to backup to the remaining 750GB of the larger disk (if thats even possible) will be extremely slow.

You are better off using the 250GB disk as a standalone disk (it will be much faster than a RAID1), and then backing up to one or more partitions on the second larger 1TB disk - the backups will be faster and more secure that way.
