Do I need a recovery cd if im cloning?

I have a rather small-form laptop, without a DVD drive.

Can I still clone directly onto another hdd?

My game plan is to clone my current HDD onto a 1 TB drive i bought, then swap them out. So the 1 TB would become my new internal drive.

How you guys have been kind enough to explain, as long as Im not changing any other hardware around, the clone will work just fine. Im more concerned with not having that recovery DVD.

Yes you can. I use Macrium Reflect for cloning and it's able to do it directly from the computer. The only time I need a recovery disk/USB stick is when I'm restoring my boot drive. You may have to expand the partition after cloning. The only way you might have a problem is if you are cloning a HDD to a SSD.

You can easily create a recovery USB:
