    Computer storage & Backups

    Good evening all.
I have windows 7 home premium desktop and the same in a laptop.
I have my broadband with Orange now called EE,With a BrightBox router,Now this router has an usb socket and been informed by orange that I may connect an external HDD to this usb connection so that I may access files from desktop and laptop.
Now my point is if I do connect an external HDD to this router and copy all my documents etc from my desktop HDD to this then connect to the router,What would be the best and easiest way for me to keep that HDD connected to the BrightBox up to date.
ie.If I add some items to my documents or photos to the desktop HDD how to sync that update to the router HDD??.
I do hope that I have explained myself clearly?
    Thanks.
And a Merry Xmas to all.

This is the router in question.

By the looks of what I have just read the USB HDD will be treated as a networked device that you can connect to and access like any other networked file share.

How to keep your information in sync

Sync Center can do this for you and it's apart of Windows. It seems fairly simple to setup but I personally haven't used it before. I believe this is the latest evolved form of the old Windows briefcase folder effect.
That knowledge base article is for Windows Vista but it might still help you. This question has also been asked a few thousand times on this forum so you should be able to find your answers fairly easily!

Thanks for your reply,Just one other small point.
Would it be advisable to leave a small 500gb drive (Small portable drive) connected ll the time or would it be best to get a better one for the job in question.
    Many thanks.
    Merry Xmas to you.

It doesn't matter. 'Better' is too highly subjective. Just make sure it's protected.
