    Restore win7 to Vista

I know I made a stupid mistake. A big mistake. I went to install windows 7 home premium. I had already tried the beta which is ultimate. The upgrade said I couldn't upgrade to the lower version. So i did the complete install which doesn't save all your programs,ETC. I installed it on the wrong hard drive. I had vista home on my other hard drive. Lost all my stuff. Now looking at my new install I can see a system restore point BEFORE the upgrade. Can I use that restore point to get my vista back? Then I can do the upgrade. Or is there a way to get those lost programs and pictures from that restore backup which is on that drive.

The answer to this depends on what exactly you did - If you have a folder on your new system called Windows.old then you have a chance.

Take a look here for your options ....

How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder

You will not be able to restore the operating system and programs without the space but you should be able to at least recover your data (pictures, Documents Etc.. ).

The folder structure of the Windows Old folder should contain a folder called Users and under that a set of folders containing all your previous user data.

You may need to take ownership of this folder to work with the files or to Temporarily set UAC to it's lowest level

How to move windows.old to windows 7

Well before I do anything stupid again I am creating a backup on my external hard drive. This should keep my PC busy for awhile. I am thinking about doing my backup then I can work on this wthout worrying about losing my windows.old files also. I should know by now NOT to be too lazy to do proper backups.
