How to automate itunes music backup

.difficulty if follow direction easy if not medium

you will need the following

.external hard drive ntfs equal to or larger than the drive where you keep your itunes library
.a folder named itunes backup automation
a txt file you can edit
.about 20 minutes time

step 1
.create folder named itunes backup automation
step 2
.create empty txt file inside said folder
step 3
.open txt file and write the following

xcopy /d/c/s/r/y/i "C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\" "H:\iTunes\username\Library\Music" -> (H is my backup external drive) you pick letter of yours not mine ok? ok

.the first part is a batch file command telling your computer that you intent

on making a copy

.the second part in bold is your source where your library sits now it is

usually C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\

.the third part is your destination which is your external hard drive where you

should make a folder named itunes\My Music

.you will need to save this as a .bat file but before you do you must turn on

show hidden files , folder and drives to do so you must open windows explorer

go to Tools->Folder Options->View Tab->put blue dot next to Show hidden files,

folders, or drives

.now save your txt file then right click rename and highlight .txt ending and

change to bat you will get warning ignore it

.your batch file is ready to be used now you need to prepare a Windows task for

it to run upon every bootup or whenever you choose please put in folder named

itunes backup automation, might want to save copy to thumb drive

Very important, take batch file, copy put somewhere else and rename back to .txt and make sure it is how you wrote it first, then delete, this is double check to make sure .bat file is a-ok ok? ok we continue-> get fresh cup of water you need it

now we make .bat file work for us by using task scheduler (very hard worker)

.to do so go to start button->all programs->Accessories->System tools->Task

.when open no panic please, on left highlight Task Scheduler Library

.on right pick Create Basic task

.window open name task anything you like but itunes music backup make sense

.click next

.When do you want task to start? -> When I log on -> click next

.Action -> start program -> click next

.Program/Script, press browse, look for your .bat file you create and pick it->

click next
.Summary page on bottom please put
check in box next to Open the properties

dialog for this task when i click finish -> click finish

.great another box opened but it good no worry be happy you do good so far

.on top some tabs we go one by one

.first tab General (but he no wear hat) double check everything ok on bottom

put check in Run with highest privileges and check next to Hidden and Configure

for Windows R 7, Windows server, 2008 R2

.second tab-> Triggers make sure trigger say At logon correct details and

enabled ->go to next tab

.third tab Actions make sure the correct path for your .bat file there ok? ok

we go next tab

.Conditions tab this is up to you but make sure under Power Start task only if

the computer is on AC power unless you have UPS then can check second box under

it rest leave unchecked-> go to next tab

.Settings (this important tab so no pick up phone talk to friend ok?) First box

check (Allow task to be run on demand) next two uncheck (Run task as soon as

possible... and if task fails restart (if computer fail a lot might want to

check this but then you have bigger problem)

.Settings still put check next to Stop the task if it runs longer than 3 days
put check next to If the running task does not end when requested force it to

stop last box leave unchecked and DO NOT START NEW INSTANCE unless you want

task attack (ahhhhhhh run/hide time task attak begin) only if you no follow

directions so relax take break this long how-to

.last tab History (hooray) leave blank press OK

.my friend the Rabbi come over and he programer tell me to make snipsnip picture to show you step by step he smart man but relax we only snipsnip picture today to help you
