    startup repair 16 hrs latter still attempting repair


    ok HP computer don't want top loose data if possible wont start up even in safe mode goes into startup repair and stays there so far 16 hrs :
    so is there a way to repair the operating system or start up dir , remember it don't come with win operating cd , dont want do complete restore unless have way to get my files thanks,
    oh make this so a dumb computer person can understand thanks

    Hello and welcome scubamedic sounds like the hard drive is bad well enough to cause this but ry this to recover data mate

    BOOTABLEUBUNTU

    Make a bootable Ubuntu disk http://www.ubuntu.com/download

    Set the BIOS to boot from theoptical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL> select TRY

    When it is finished - it takes verylittle time you will get a screen like in the pic .

    Open the drive you want > Userand dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy /paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doingthis.

    I am not sure if it will but I haverecovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or justplain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.

    Following that then just install anew hard drive and do this
    Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
