Cannot create system restore point (0x80042302)

Been trying for about 3 days to create a restore point but the same message keeps popping up.

"A volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the application even log for more information."

I currently have no access to Internet on my laptop and Windows 7 mysteriously reverted to a Windows 97 with VERY limited access. Currently using my phone.

Please help, I'm not a computer geek but I try my best at understanding.

Hello and welcome Casus mate have you got that machine backed up - data wise??
You might try these in safe mode if necessary

Run as admin a sfc and chkdsk from the command prompt - type in

    "sfc /scannow"

    and

    'chkdsk C: /f /r"

don't include the quotation marks make sure you leave spaces between the commands
    ie C;[space] /f [space]/r

Thank you for helping me but I get the same response and when I tried doing that before. I'm getting "windows resource protection could not start the repair service."

Now have you backed up all of your data? because of what has happened to the OS and you have no internet access it may mean a clean reinstall.

Also have you got access to a friends or other family members computer because there are bootable programs that can scan the machine for infection.

    One for example is this

Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 for this you will have to make a bootable disk an set the laptop to optical or USB boot I tend to like the disk myself and insert the disk on power up.

It will scan for any nasties from go and doesn't need an OS to run.

Just out of curiosity this machine is Windows 7 the first OS that has been installed on it? or has it been upgraded from another OS?

    PS some system specs please
