    Simon,

It may be worthwhile feeding back to the company some of the suggestions / comments in this thread or even a link back to this thread. This is after all a beta product and some of the suggestions could improve the final release.

If you receive any benefits for the report, then that'll be a good reward for letting us all know

This program requires that the HDD in the computer is working to the extent that when F11 is pressed there's data on the HDD. If I totally reformat an HDD then there's no data for F11 to operate on.
Yes, of course it does, it creates a recov partition - bit similar to the oem recov parts. If you totally reformat the HDD then it won't be there - that is what totally reformatting means.

it requires some sort of Windows to be working to use it.
No. You can boot the included wim file into ram via F key. Windows does not need to be working. OR it also creates a bootable cd/usb if you like.

I've seen users accidentally get their systems totally in a mess by accidentally pressing these recovery keys at system boot time --it's easier to do than you think.
No. If you are drunk enough to do that it will boot the recovery winpe. You can just reboot from that without going through the restore process.

    New version now. v1.

Looks like it uses grub to boot recov environment on mbr systems. Big advantage of that is it doesn't need windows boot management to be working. It does mean you will have to set some kind of small timeout so you have a chance to press the f key.

You can now set that as you wish and have the menu visible or invisible:
