Windows 7 restoring from system image

    Dear experts,

Few days ago my laptop started to act strange. When I checked HDD, I got notification that I have to do backup, and replace drive. My question is: Do I have to install Windows 7 on new hard drive and then restore system image, or do I have to use some software for that purpose? Step by step guide would be more than helpfull.

I'm sorry for my bad English.

    Best regards,

    Ugljesa

What program do you use to make the system image.

I used built in back up and restore feature in Windows 7. Do you have some advice about other software that I can use ?

I would make an image with free Macrium. The built-in imaging is not very reliable.

When you use Macrium, make sure that you image the C partition and the 'active' partition which could be another partition - e.g. the system partition or the recovery partition. If you want advice how to best go about it, post a picture of your disk management.

In the meantime you can try using the Windows image you made. If it works, OK. Else you have the macrium image as backup.
