Why no copy of the windows folder when you make a system image?

Just wondering why Windows allows you to select all files but the windows folder on your C drive when choosing what files to backup?

Also what is the best way to make a copy of the windows folder manually? In safe mode? Because alot of the files, especially .log, are in use, and can't be copied in a rar archive file.

Well what if something happens to that folder? Wouldn't it be wise to have a copy of it?

That is the purpose of an image backup. If your windows folder gets corrupted by accident or malware the only reliable way of getting it back working is by restoring a system image. A system image is a complete working copy of everything on your Windows drive (normally C). Windows backup by default makes an image at the same time as a file backup unless you uncheck the option. You need to make a system repair disk and boot from that in order to restore the image. This tutorial explains the imaging process Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup and this one how to restore it. System Image Recovery
