Where do I get the cd to fix the 'windows loading files' and hanging?

    Hi all,

Been at this for 3 days now and am getting pretty desperate. I turn on my PC and I get 'windows loading files'... It just hangs.

    The repair doesn't work

    System recovery options are blank

    It cannot find system image

Select system image back up, I don't know which file to select!

Nothing works. I've tried the chkdsk things and it seems there are no problems.

Am I being thick?! Do I need a repair cd? Not very technical as you can tell, but my life is on this desktop!

    Thank you

Hello Lolo and welcome to Seven Forums.

At this point I think I would try a Repair Install. If successful (barring any hardware issues like a failing hard drive, graphics card, etc) a Repair Install should preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc. This tutorial explains how to proceed and also includes a Warning box that you should read and understand.

    Repair Install

The third bullet point in the Warning box includes a download link for official Windows 7 installation disks. You will need to get the download that matches your computer's installed version of Windows 7. In other words, if (for example) your computer has the English version of Windows 7 Professional with SP1 64-bit installed, you'd have to download "Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 U (media refresh) X17-59186.iso" and save it someplace convenient like your desktop. Since this will be an iso file, you'd then have to burn it to a DVD to create a functional installation disk. Once the installation disk is created you could then proceed with the Repair Install.

Perhaps other Forum members will jump in with better ideas.

Their should be a Microsoft Windows sticker on your computer telling you what version you have and it's COA number.

It should look something like this.

    That number doesn't help.
Did you find the sticker on the computer?

Are you able to boot the computer in Normal or Safe Mode?

The X15 is the only number on the sticker??

Turn on, goes straight to 'windows loading files'....forever!
I then ctl+alt+del and get 'launch startup repair
    or
    Start windows normally

    thank you very much
