    Missing \windows\system32\config\system

Hello, I am new to this website, I recently joined to seek help for my 2 laptops(Dell latitude D620, And my dell latitude E6400) this thread is dedicated to the E6400 which needs to be "booted" from a CD on Startup, it says press any key to boot up from CD. Which i do have the operating system Disk, which says (on the cd) "already installed on your computer". Im not sure what the problem is. Any help will be appreciated. Im willing to spend alittle money to buy what i dont already have to ensure my Cpu's Rebirth :) Thanks in advance.

Hello RaThoth and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the E6400 needs a CD to boot, you might try a Startup Repair.

    Startup Repair

If this doesn't help you could also take a look at a Repair Install (link at bottom of tutorial.)

    Hi

It is not clear for me what you intended. If i am not mistaken, the Dell E6400 is showing a message which states "Missing \windows\system32\config\system". If that is the case, your hard drive most likely failed or has bad sectors on surface. I would run the Dell diagnostic test before proceeding to re-install OS and make sure all hardware parts are fine. Usually built in diagnostics can be started by pressing F12 on powering on and then selecting "Diagnostics" from the boot menu. For more info, please refer page 41 of the manual.
