    Creating a system image from command line onto USB


    To save a lot of time im just posting what I am trying to do and what I have available to me.

    I want to replace my hard drive, but I do not have a windows 7 CD (laptop did not come with one), and the manufacturer will not send me one (gave up after 3 hours of on hold).
    Right now all I have a a command prompt and I can't boot into windows besides through the recovery mode.

    I need to move the OS files off my failing hard drive, and onto a USB so that I can put them onto the new hard drive after I install it. I do not care about anything besides recovering the operating system as I already have all my data backed up externally.

    From what I understand just copying all the files from the failing drive, and putting them on a new one would not work because of windows anti-piracy measures. In order to do what I am trying, I would need to make a system image of the current drive, and then load that onto the new drive.

    My question is how would I do such a thing using only the command line? I have only created system images through the GUI in the past.

    Download the appropriate version of a Windows 7 ISO from here, then install and activate with your existing Windows Product Key.

Sorry I have come back to these forums for advice but I find the info here invaluable. If I create a system image using windows 7 ultimate of my C: and D: drive on my 1TB E: drive, will that be the best way to store and be able to retrieve a backup if any of my C: and D: drives fail?

I have looked for but cannot find a command line that I can put in a bat file and use the Windows 7 scheduler to accomplish image backups on a schedule.
