    How do I get to Win RE form Win 7 pro installation disk for refurb pc?

    Hi,
    I have a Dell Optiplex 745 with 4 gb ram, 250 gb WD hdd. This is a refurb with Win 7 pro 64 bit installed. Can't start windows as of 2 days ago. Can't boot in safe mode - get's stuck at disk.sys. I would like to try 'repair your computer' in windows RE using the installation disk, but I can't locate win RE on the install disk. The disk says specifically that it's for a refurbished pc. Is win RE not available on a refurb install disk, or am I just doing something wrong? No BSOD.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    (Let me know if I'm in the wrong forum - I wasn't quite sure.)

    Hi

    You can download "Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1" ISO file from the below link.

    Burn the disc to a blank DVD and boot from it. Then try running "Startup Repair" by referring option two of the below tutorial.

    System Recovery Options

    But before trying any of the recovery options, i highly recommends to run a hardware diagnostic test and make sure that all system components are healthy. Usually on a Dell computer, built in hardware diagnostics can be invoked by ;

    1. Press F12 during power on

    2.Select "Diagnostic" from the boot selection menu.

    Advanced Boot Options then "repair your computer". Works? Errors? Click "view diagnostic repair results" (or something alike) and post which test doesn't have status 0x0.
    What exact error do you get on normal boot?

    I used F12 during boot, and ran the hard drive diagnostic. Message generated is "Drive 0: WDC (model #) - Fail. Return code 7". Does this mean my hard drive is not accessible, and so no point to trying Win RE?

    Unfortunately yes . You can't fix a hardware failure with WinRE or other Windows fixing tools. When you said that booting stalls at loading "disk.sys" , i smelled a HDD failure and that is why i suggested running diagnostics first.
