    I'm no expert either.
I'm not really sure what you have done or why.
If it was my computer I would just do a Clean Install and start over fresh.

I did find a tutorial that might help you. Just read through it and see if it is what you are looking for.

thx @layback bear but the info at link is NOT relevant to my situation. I have seemingly been able to resolve most of my tech nightmare issues by running a Windows Restore Point in safe mode. Might try to edit my first post in case it might be of benefit to others. Will wait a tiny bit before marking this as Solved as I need to do a bunch more testing, but so far seems pretty good.

Hmm now backing up a bit have you tried a system restore and there are several data recovery tools to use see these Best Free Data Recovery and File Un-delete Utility
If I may suggest it would be a good idea to back up the registry before you go any further Registry - Backup and Restore I do this after a clean install and before I tweak the registry for any reason.

Now I don't know how much stuff you have on the machine but have you considered backing up the data and doing a clean reinstall?? Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Why would you move AppData folders? I understand moving User folders since I do it myself to keep the image smaller on C and to root them in OneDrive so all my devices are sync'd in real time via the cloud. Some also moved the full User profile which caused unintended consequences over the years to where its tutorial's author no longer advises it. But I've never heard on anyone moving AppData so I wonder what, where and why would motivate or instruct someone to do that?

These are System files so if they can't be simply moved back where they belong under your profile then try running SFC /SCANNOW Command to see if it will recreate them. Then set up each program again with the settings you like. Some programs may need to be reinstalled but I doubt it. People reinstall all the time and the best advice is not to reimport AppData since it's a corruption path into a Clean Reinstall, so trying to recover lost AppData is absurd. Just start fresh with the folders put back where they belong and see how the programs interact with them.

Let us know how this works and if there's something more that you've lost that merits recovering. As suggested now may also be a good time to get that one great perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7

Wrote this days ago, nt sure why it didn't post ... thanks for the help

Thanks for the recent suggestions, however I had waited long enough and gone ahead with using a Windows generated restore point from before my disaster and this was largely successful in getting things back on track. Had to re-install some software and do a bunch of checking that all was working fine which it is so I will mark this as "solved" now.

Some ?s that were asked of me: I can't recall what article I had read and rationale for redirecting APPDATA as well as user folders e.g. Documents, Contacts. Still might do the latter to free up space on my small SSD that has operating system, but have learned my lesson. Have now a few intermediate images and extended my backup scheme as well.

I believe someone had suggested Imageburn for burning CDs which I considered but rejected as this website review indicates that it along with other highly regarded free burning programs is using the OpenCandy prog as a wrapper and many consider the latter to be (potentially) malicious ... see here Controversial Advertising Program Now Being Embedded in More Software

    Thanks for updating.

I only recommend Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool for burning ISO now.
