Insufficient space for backup?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my PC and Windows Home Server 2011 on my HP Proliant microserver.

Every day, the server dashboard informs me that my system hasn't been backed up for xxx days.
Every time I run a backup, it fails with insufficient space...

According to "Backup and Restore", my Location: has 855.46 GB free of 1.73 TB (a share on the microserver) and the backup size is 385.83 GB

How can I convince the backup process that 385.83 GB fits in 855.46 GB of space???

Failing this, how can I tell the Home Server dashboard not to nag me about backups which will never work? I've setup my own backup regime (SyncBackPro), so I can live without Windows Backup. I'd have to anyway, wouldn't I?

I might be completely off base here

Hi Swiftie:

Its a holiday here in US (President's Day) a "shopping day" so I see no one has answered you yet.
I'm really NOT good at this.... but for what its worth...

I have had a small window screaming at me that "Windows backup" has not been done for xxx days too... My computer's VAIO care also picks that message up so I have "two" error messages every day or several times a day when turning on computer....

I know its not your problem exactly, but mine is that I have the saving pointed (path?) to the CD drive.. and lacking "space" on there of course (!) Just like you, it asks and prompts me to load in new media for more space (i.e. 500 cd's I guess would be sufficient to hold what I filled up of 500 GB HD??

Anyway.... go into the Windows backup menu (I don't write this like computer books do)

Start/Computer/Action Center (look at bottom right side for that)/ Maintenance/ more information box/ User Account control box may appear, click on "run" its ok, its a Windows application, and safe / a new box appears and there you should see your problem error message displayed (click on options to see if you can fix anything i.e. like your backup settings.. maybe going in and out of it might fix it (but I'd wait a few hours and see if someone else doesn't say my directions are all WRONG WRONG WRONG....

You can tell I don't give much computer advice at all on the web.. just trying to help since everyone else is enjoying the holiday here in US.

First thing that i am going to look at this is the time synchronization of the two computers communicating about the backup process.

Run TreeSize Free for hard drive allocation numbers and see if you actually have the claimed "free space".

?Maybe it's time to find another backup/restore routine, "fire" Windows Backup? Although I use Acronis True Image, there are many free and fee backup/restore programs out there.

Yes, it certainly was the right direction. I had checked to backup my Documents library. But, I'd added a network folder to my Documents library, and this was failing the backup.

So, I unselected my Documents Library, and instead added all of the folders of my Document Library other than the network folder.

That got my backup to run to completion. I've since had it fail again, but haven't had the time to investigate why, yet.
