Using an Acronis Bootable Backup: Arranging Boot Order in BIOS

Para 5.1.4 of Acronis 2015 Manual = "Arranging boot order in BIOS". It says:

"To boot your computer from Acronis bootable rescue media, you need to arrange boot order in BIOS so the media is the first booting device." and:

"Press the key combination (such as, Del, F1, Ctrl+Alt+Esc, Ctrl+Esc). BIOS setup utility will open.."

MY QUESTION: Am I Right in thinking that my machine will then automatically tell me the correct key combinations to press to get the BIOS setup utility to open, (so that I can then set my bootable backup to be the first booting device)?

If not, how do I find them?

The correct key to get into the BIOS varies, depending on motherboard or PC manufacturer.

The list of keys mentioned are likely candidates. The delete key works on my PC.

I've got a Gigabyte motherboard, just as you do. I'd suggest you try the delete key. You may have to hold it down or poke it once per second or twice per second. The timing can be cranky.

Once you get into the BIOS, you can then change the order to whatever you want.

OR--and this is likely simpler--use one of the F keys to bring up a ONE-TIME only menu, from which you can choose the boot device. That way, you don't have to use the BIOS at all.

F12 works for that on my Gigabyte board. You'd choose your CD/DVD drive from that menu--if you made a recovery CD. Or choose your USB drive, if you made a USB recovery drive.

When you start your computer, the first screen shows:
- key to enter BIOS
- key to open Boot Menu (one-time menu ignatzatsonic mentioned)
- key to update BIOS (depends on BIOS version I believe)
- key to run factory reset installation (on branded PC/laptops)

Power-On-Self-Test (POST) is the first screen you see when you start your computer. Then SATA controllers load.

The revised words are in italic.The remaining question is No. 1, about seeing the key combination. From your reply, perhaps I just hold F12 down before starting the machine and I will get the one-time opportunity to specify the boot volume. Is that correct?

(I'm wary about doing boot stuff. A wrong keystroke can cause havoc.)

Yes, I know, but for some reason the first post got posted without me knowing until I had redrafted it and posted it for the first time (as I thought)*. If I had known it had been posted I could (would) have posted a reply asking the second question.

* I guess that having inadvertently posted the first, I did not notice that it had gone because I had not refreshed my browser (I had no reason to), so the first post was not visible to me as I drafted and posted the second (thinking it was the only one).

On your tech reply "When you start your computer, the first screen shows:", I have never seen that. To start it I just press the big blue button on the box. The machine just starts.

Just keep tapping F12 after you start PC until you get to boot menu or windows start to load.
Alternatively, keep tapping DEL to get into BIOS itself.
