New Computer - Restore it to When it Arrived

I bought a new desktop tower from Costco 2 weeks ago, a Dell XPS 8700 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. It did not come with installation disks. I tried several times to make a system repair disk, but got a message that "Microsoft Windows Repair Disk has stopped working."

I set the computer up, but made a couple of mistakes and now when I try to do a System Restore, it says it did not complete successfully.

I would like to restore it to the way it was the day they delivered it and start over.

Dell is sending me Windows 7 Installation Disk(s). There is a DBR_BOOT partition(?) as well as a C: drive on the computer.

What is the best thing to do?
Thanks, cb

DBR most likely refers to "Dell Backup and Recovery", but I'm not sure how to use it. You can go to Dell forums and see if you can learn anything there. It may or may not be a way to restore to a factory state.

Dell forums would be the best place to get Dell-specific advice, along with the Dell web site support area in general.

But---since Dell is already sending you installation discs, I'd be tempted to hold my fire until those discs arrived and then use them.

I just check the manual of your model, but haven't seen any mention of a restore. However, you can check the screen during POST - it should state which keys can be used (i.e., F2 to enter setup, F12 for boot menu). See if there is anything resembling a restore.
