Windows Backup keeps adding to the old backup file

In the past whenever I needed more disk space for a backup I would just delete my old backups but recently Windows Backup has just been adding the new backups to the old file.
So now I have one 500 GB file that includes a dozen backups ranging from October until now and if I need to make space for a new backup I'm forced to delete the only backup I have!

I want to set it up so that it will create a new file every time I run it. I've gone through all of the settings and I've searched online all over the place but I can't seem to find an answer to this problem.

I don't use Windows 7 Back and Restore just for that reason. It may work and then not work.
My here suggest Macrium Reflect but I use Acronis True Image WD Free Edition and NEVER had
    a problem.
Sorry I did not answer your Q.

I have used EaseUS backup for years, my experience is its very stable and works, it has differential backup and incremental backup, for your case, i thinks incremental backup is better.

I just don't understand why I seem to be the only one with this problem. There must be some setting or option I can change that will make it create a new separate backup period every time it runs.

    Hello Audiodrome,

What kind of backup are you running? Is it just a file backup, system image or both?

I think as long as you insist on the Windows backup, you will not get anywhere. Use this:

    Imaging with free Macrium

I'm with whs. I do use Windows backup for doing system images of my C: Drive but I don't include file backups with those. I tried it early on but found it to be too awkward.
I keep all my data on a separate partition and use FreeFileSync with versioning.

I just use the recommended settings. The weird thing is that it used to save all of the backups separately by week and now it doesn't. I've tried different settings but nothing works.

At least it is backing up my files but I find it extremely inconvenient not to have the option to delete old backups because they are all embedded in the massive "year-long" backup period file!
