Backup error: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with

I am doing my first backup in a while. I don't know if it is related, but since my last backup I have switched to Windows 10 and back to Windows 7. Using Windows 7, I get the error "Backup error: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with x80041321." I am unable to proceed.

Please note I can follow explicit detailed instructions but I cannot follow instructions written for people really good on computers that leave steps out or assume you know them.

I have Googled this error and have not found anything very recent. I think it is best for me to start here. This forum has always been very helpful to me. Thanks.

It is unfortunate but the Windows backup/recovery function is very weak and very touchy. That's why most people here use the free Macrium to make their backups/images. If you did the slightest little thing to the backup file - e.g. rename or move - then it is a no-go.
