    using system a image


    hi guys,

    i have a ACER laptop using windows7 ultimate, i took a system image from the ACER laptop and stored it onto a external hard drive,

    i have a DELL laptop also using windows7 ultimate system, can i take the image from the external hard drive and put it onto the DELL laptop (yes/no)????? can the ACER image only be used on the ACER laptop(yes/no)???? please let me know,

    This is my opinion.

    No your image you took of your Acer will not work on a Dell.

    A image from a Acer to another Acer will most likely not work also.
    Images are designed to work on the exact system they cam off of.
    Their would probably be all kinds of driver, bios, I.D. and permission problems if it did boot. Unless the Windows 7 was a retail version you would have activation problems.

    Why are you trying to do such a thing?

    Their are probable a member or two that have some tricks to try to do such a thing but I'm not one of them.

    thanks for your post, simple question (yes or no) can i take the image from the external hard drive and put it onto the DELL laptop, you explain this can not be done, i am happy with your anwser, i am learning about laptops, how they work etc, bit by bit learning more and more all thanks to you guys,

    If the external hard drive image is from the system you are trying to put it back on. (Yes)

    You can't just through just any image on just any computer.

    Images, Backups and or Clones should be on external drives for safe keeping.

    Go through these two tutorials and you will get a better understanding of imaging.

    I have used both methods. At the present I use Macrium Reflect.
