Is it possible to add files to a system image?

I made a system image of my computer using the built-in Windows 7 tool. I attached the VHD in Disk Management, added the files that I wanted, and then detached the VHD. Every time I do a restore using a system repair disc with the same system image that I edited, my modifications are nowhere to be found. If I mount it back, the files are really there. This is driving me crazy.

Am I missing something?

Hi alpha304, welcome to 7F!

By your own admission it is possible, you can see them, but the windows backup program can not see them to add them; Yes, it is possible.

By any chance is the read only box checked, when the dialog box comes up to attach the VHD?

In the meantime I'm going to see if I can have some other members stop by to help.

Hello Anak and thank you for your reply. I don't think that's the issue, because the read only option is unchecked.

If you haven't done this, maybe manually restoring the added files would be an acceptable workaround.

That's good alpha, you're welcome; Thanks David, I knew we had that link in the tutorial section, but I couldn't remember how it was titled.

When to delete old files and create System Image after System Repair
I have just finished a System Repair on my Windows 7 using repair ISO, and I'm not sure if I should do a system image backup before deleting old files with Disk Cleanup, or delete them after I've done a Repair Disc and System Image as well. I'm also afraid to delete anything at this stage. Would...

Help with a complete system image restore from VHD files?
Not as simple as the title sounds. Believe me. To start: I did a complete backup of my system a month ago. I saved it on an external HD. There are three directories: Backup (Date) with two VHD files in this directory, Catalog, SPPMetadataCache and a file entitled MediaID. Well, about a week...

System Image files

Finding C drive files in system image
I had an impending hard drive failure and ran backup to a USB external hard drive. I put the new hard drive in and ran restore. However, in terms of data files, all I got was the desktop stuff. There were some data files on the C drive that didn't show up. In the backup files on the external...
