1st backup on other internal HDD results in error 0x81000019

I just had Windows 7 Prof 64-bit reinstalled from my OEM CD/DVD a couple days ago. I noticed that by the clock in the task bar it said I should set up scheduled backups. So I decided to do it to my other internal HDD which is 1Gb in size (E drive) where as my C drive is 320Gb in size which Windows 7 is installed on. Not far in I got this error:

Windows Backup error: 0x81000019 - Check VSS and SPP event logs

I don't know why it is having an issue so I searched the net for an answer and found on old thread (730 days old) about this.

    Start> Right click Computer> Manage
    Select Storage> Disk management
Verify that you have a System Reserved partition of 100 MB
If yes, right click on this volume and select Properties.
    View used and free space.

You must have around 40 MB free space for backup to complete successfully
Which HDD do I need the System Reserved Partition on? I only have it on the C drive. Not the E drive. C has 100Mb reserved.

Okay I see where it says I have 62Mb free of that reserve. Isn't that enough? That is more than 40Mb.

I also noticed that the reserve is active. I found all the jargon confusing so I decided it best to start my own thread. Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi,
I personally wouldn't use windows for back ups and use this instead,
    Imaging with free Macrium

What about the backup utility that my backup external came with? Externals can't do scheduled ones though right? So I guess I just have to remember to run it? I haven't used it yet.

    HI,
No telling what that is you didn't say ?
Macrium reflect is very easy to use and free.
I don't use a schedule other than when I feel the need to create another image.

To me it is best to do backups manually. When I do backups I do nothing else on the computer. I don't want anything to interfere with my backups.
Before I do a backup I do all my normal cleaning of the system and run security scans. That way I know I'm not backing up a bunch of junk.
If you do scheduled backups you back up everything, the good, bad and the ugly.

I have for years use Windows 7 backup but I found it easier, quicker and better to use Macrium Reflect for all my backup and clones. Knock on wood I have never had to use a backup but I still keep making them just in case.

Macrium can be scheduled. If you are interested, post back and I show you how.

You can have a look at this tutorial to try and address that error.
    Backup Error 0x81000019 - Fix

I have never had an issue with Windows inbuilt system imaging but it is not very flexible and I now use (free) Macrium Reflect all the time.

Had the VSS and SPP error too after adding a 1Tb HDD into one of the two free ATA slots.
Discovered in Linux that the order of HDD's have changed and the 1Tb always was on top. Same in Hardware->disks BUT not seen elsewhere in Explorer NOR disk management!!!
What happened is that the BIOS searches ATA-0 upto 3 that can be connected randomly. Windows copies this order, looks for one with a MBR and boots from it BUT deep below ATA-0 does not need to be the one with the MBR.
After replugging my HDD's and now with the MBR connected into ATA-0 instead of ATA-2 where it was before adding the 1Tb HDD my backup ran without any error for the first time after weeks of searching the internet.........
So I think that backup uses hard ATA settings instead of Explorer AND does not tell you this. With IDE this was no issue as IDE-0 always contained the master an so included the MBR.
But again there is a but. Yesterday looked into an old computer where the MBR was on IDE-0-slave --but-- there was no IDE-0-master connected (big smile). Actually more or less the same like ATA
I call it this a BUG!
