EZ Gig IV cloning problem - ideas?

Samsung laptop has a hard drive that seems to be going bad - HN-M750MBB - and I am replacing it with a Sandisk 500gb SSD. I'm using EZ GigIV to clone the drive via a USB3 dongle.

The Sammy hard drive has 4 sectors that report as bad and from time to time they slow the whole laptop to sub-glacial speeds. Instead of waiting for the whole shebang to fail completely, I'm putting in a new drive before school starts again (daughter's lappy).

So here is the problem ... the clone is stuck on those bad sectors, a mere 5% of the way into the job! It is not reporting any errors but is has spent the last 3 hrs trying to get beyond 206,847.

Any suggestions on how to skip those parts of the disk?

I have never tried to Clone a bad drive.
I Clone drives before they go bad.

Anyway you could try Macrium Reflect and see if it will Clone your bad drive.

Macrium Reflect Free

Hang in there. Their might be other members with suggestions.

Well in this case the drive is marginal. Mostly boots and runs fine. I suspect the disk is failing progressively, so am trying to head it off at the pass.

Does your laptop have a eSata connection? It may or may not work. I have never tried.
Do you have access to a desktop where you can use a sata connections?

Edit:
Thinking back I did use a eSata for backups using MR.

This is what I used.

I got Macrium to recognize the SSD (formatted in Windows first) but the clone failed;

Quote:
Write failed - 22 - broken pipe.
Does this mean an error in the SSD?

You could try this tutorial by Brink on the troubled drive.

Disk Check

If it fixes the troubled drive then you could try the Clone again.
