Cannot boot after installing a hard drive with Windows

Hi,

Few days ago I installed a hard disk drive from a laptop with Windows installed to a desktop computer with Windows installed as well. I did so since I need to check the laptop HDD for viruses. After I removed the HDD, I could not boot to my desktop. How to fix this?

I have tried to use the Windows repair feature by using my installation DVD, but it didn't work. I kept getting a message saying something like the version of the Windows repair did not match with the version of the installed Windows on my desktop every time I tried to run the Windows repair.

For additional info, I use RAID 1 on my desktop which I set up by using Intel Rapid Storage Technology. The desktop runs Windows 7 Pro 64 bit while the laptop runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Thanks.

If your installation DVD is pre SP1 and your current installed version is SP1 it can cause the mismatch problem.
You can download the latest ISO including SP1 using the Heidoc ISO downloader available here:

There are some antivirus program using USB flash driver and bootable.
In fact bootable antivirus are common for quite a few years ago.
I remember about this as i do not think i would go to this situation as yours.

BUT

You can install antivirus on the HDD which have a lot of virus & malware.

I did this for a friend who had too many malware and virus affect the system.

So i download this SUPERAntiSpyware to do a full scan.
It found 200++ virus and malware, and able to delete all of them.

So, do download antivirus, example this SUPERAntiSpyware.com free version (or any others, if you prefer)
After download, do reboot.

After the system is on, run this Superantispyware.
Follow the instruction to delete the virus, malware, etc.

Run the Superantispyware again, and do likewise. (Follow the instruction.....)

Restart the computer, and Run the Superantispyware again, and do likewise.
This may be troublesome, but it is slowing keep wiping if the viurs, spyware reappeared again.

Do it until the superantispyware no longer detect anymore.

Oh one more thing.

Go get an internet security software to protect.

I have 2 type of security software.

1. Panda Internet Security 2016, as being using many years ago, as there is no real problem.

2. Just bought the Superantispyware Pro. Paid version will do regular daily quick scan.

There is no interference between both as active.

Panda is doing it live & active.
Superantispyware is doing daily scan (setting set at 2 am as this is the time my computer is on).
