    Win7 backup & updates fail

Continuing saga. Since fixing 'user profile failure', can't get Win Updates or Backup to work. Used REimage as recommended. It says it fixed a lot of stuff, but didn't fix my problems. It ran abt 1 hour just on '~checking desktop malware', but finished without any msg. Tried calling them... three attempts ended in black hole. I would be perfectly happy to go back to older backup with system image and user files. Would that fix it or make matters worse?

    Paul,
not to sure about that prog.
    Please run sfc /scannow,
    and chkdsk.
    see what they come as.

Might be easier to go back to a
    LAST KNOWN GOOD image

I agree. If that is the "Reimage" program to which I think the OP might be referring, I would steer clear.

    I suggest following @torchwood's advice.

It and windows update worked accept...Last update said ' Update 3 of 2 failed due to unknown error Code 80070490. What does all this mean?

As you backed up from an image its likely the your system needs to be reregistered.
The error relates to a permissions problem.
please run this tool, copy/paste the results.

If im correct in the WAT section towards the bottom it wll show as
    not registered.

Ran link as suggested. Ran diagnostics, but see no "WAT" section on any tab. What did I miss?

I think you wanted my to post the results? Which tab do you want?
