W 7 hangs when trying to use backup&restore

My system hangs up every time I try to use W7 backup utility. Any ideas what can cause it?

Just a guess from your information. Do you have enough free space on your HD, to do the Back UP?

Tons of space (I'm using external 500 Gb drive) plus I didn't get anywhere to tell it what and where I want to backup. As soon as I click on any button in "Backup and Restore" window computers hangs up

I have the same problem. I can make a backup, though I can't change any of the settings. Also, I can't use any of my restore points, though I can see a list of them.
I used windows backup in vista with out any problem! Any ideas?

Recently I had problems also with copying/backing up files. I disabled the realtime protection of Windows Defender and my problem is solved!

Donīt know if this has anyting to do with it, but I think itīs worth a try.

Yes, about a week ago. I should have done a clean install but I was lazy and did upgrade... What's interesting I've got Acronis True Image 2009 that's not compatible (according to Microsoft) with W7 but it works fine. :)

The resaon I posed the question is that I am thinking, maybe, you should copy on Acronis and then do a clean install. If it works with the clean instal,l bite the bulle,t and reinstall your programs. If not just put your original back with
    acronis.

I seem to have fixed my backup issue. I found that when I turned my anti virus off (Kaspersky Internet Sercurity 2010) that I could carry out a backup as normal. Also I can now use restore points when needed. Hope this helps.
