Can I restore win7 by formating xp partition?
So I installed XP, and can't log on to win7 atm. I understand why now. However, if I just format the XP partition, will I be able to log onto win7 again?

Do you have an install DVD for Win7 ?
If you do you can boot from this and use the start-up repair option to recover the Win7 - this should also see the XP install and automatically create a Dual boot system.
You may have to run the repair more than once
Yeah I do at home, but I'm at my dads and would like to have it fixed today. Would it work to format the xp partition? I'm not sure if that would restore the boot files neccesary to boot win7
No, Simply formatting the active partition would actually leave you without a working operating system at all
You have to create a new boot system on the Win7 partition and remove the existing one on the XP partition.
Formatting will just remove the XP one without rebuilding the win7 one - thus you would not have any boot files
One thing you could try is EasyBCD - have a look on their site I think there may be a way to build the win7 boot system from within XP, but not sure how complicated this is
