Hi DesjEric, I did a clean install of Win7 x64. My X1300 came with Vista Home Premium x64 and as I was installing Win7 x64 straight away it seemed easier than uninstalling and cleaning up all the uneccessary Acer rubbish that came with it.

Backing up to external USB HD

    IggyAZ said:
This may be a nothing answer but are you using your AC power supply when backing up?
It always a good practice if it available to have external power on.

    My 2 cents

Something else to consider along this train of thought:

Have you tried going into of all your USB Root Hub Properties in Device Manager and unchecking the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.

This thread was started after Peter g3hee posting about his problem using Windows Backup with Win7 on an Acer Aspire X1300 which is a tower. I have one myself and spent hours researching it because it was driving me nuts, although a lot of people that know me would say I am already nuts. If I have a glitch I have to solve it, if something is supposed to work then in my opinion it should work. My machine duplicated the exact fault as original post and it turned that it was caused in my case by a combination of Win7, the Nvidia chipset and 4GB of ram. Here is the link to the solution You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM.
which since applying has cured the problem. I have run Windows Backup a number of times to confirm this has fixed my problem.
Good Luck to all of us who has bought a X1300, mine was bought in a hurry after a complete failure of another computer, for something new it is very noisy and runs quite hot.

They had X1300 on sale at Fry's for $278US at Christmas. We bought two. So far, so good.

THe sideways tray on trim tower is a bit hinky. I noted the heat and noise but it isn't noticeable by them.

But the family members are in love with them, doubling their computing power from older $1000+ machines

Gotta admit the keyboard is like butter compared to mine.

I would like to thank everybody who has been kind enough to come up with suggestions to rectify the persistent failure of the Windows 7 Backup program on my Acer 1300.
I have tried out, as far as I am able, all the fixes that were recommended to me but to no avail, bar one.
Finally I decided to adopt the (to me) ultimate course of action amongst the fixes and used the 2cnd. (white) disk that Acer supplied with the Windows 7 Upgrade pack and executed a clean install.
Eureka ! All is now sweetness and light, the Backup works fine, and as an added bonus I have off-loaded all the dreadful advertising crud that emanated from the Ist.(Green) Acer disk.
    Many Thanks everyone.

Peter, are you able to get favorite apps and any needed drivers off the Green disk? You may not need them since the Win7 DVD included is mostly driver-complete.

You can also check the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model for apps/drivers if not accessible on the CD.
