    Which version of Acronis?

There's just so many to choose from.

I guess I'm just looking for a personal version & a free one would be nice.

So which one do I want?

Use Windows Backup and schedule synctoy - both free. Spend the cash on some RAM or something more useful.

They do not have a free one, it is a 30 day trial. Use your judgement, to decide which is for you. Do not like it, notify and you do not have to pay.

While Acronis True Image Home 2010 is not free, both Amazon.com and NewEgg.com recently were selling it for $23.99.

While I do like the Windows 7 "system image" utility, there is more functionality with a product like Acronis and for $23.99 was a worthwhile investment. I've already gotten my monies worth out of the product. The Try and Decide functionality is worth it alone if you like to play, take chances or otherwise experiment with something.

So wait... there is a version that is for free for Western DIgital HDD's?

I know my passport is a WD, how can I check the maker of my internal HDD's with out ripping open my case? (there is a good chance they are WD, but they may be Seagates, so I want to know for sure)

That's what I have....my computer's builder has been using the Acronis programs for quite a while, and he got this while he was setting my machine up.

Even I have been able to successfully and consistently do proper back-ups onto my external drive with this program, both of the OS partition(C: ) , and the data partition (D: )....and I'm not exactly an IT professional
