Just do the same thing you did last time. When you restore the image to the new drive Windows will use the latest one. Don't worry about not having the room. It may write over the last image but you don't need it.
If you are concerned or want to save space, delete the image you made a month ago, then run a new one. That will save space. You don't need to do this, but you can.
This method will work fine for you. I hope this clears things up.
Windows 7 Backup imaging will incrementally update your Image if you want. You can schedule it to do that and also backup your selected files.
Keep your external plugged in so Backup can work in the background on its schedule.
In order to be detected during a reimaging operation from the booted Win7 DVD or REpair CD, the folder must be in the root of the external and named exactly the same. This is not a problem if you just leave it alone.
If you want to keep several, then you need to rename each slightly for storage and replace them into the root with the original name to reimage the HD.
I keep a Win7 backup image on each of our seven computers in a primary partition on a secondary or primary HD, then copy it into a folder for that computer on external. When I need to reimage, it quickly finds the primary partition image. However if the HD fails, I would move the image into the root of the external for detection by the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD.
Each time you create an image, test cueing it up using your Win7 DVD or Repair CD "Recover Using an Image" to be sure.
I used Paragon a little and Macrium a lot. Never had a problem with them. Especially Macrium is so super easy that I don't know where one could possibly make a mistake. I also use Norton Ghost on another system - but that is the heavy cavalry and one can easily make mistakes.Anyone reading this should not be afraid to try Macrium or Paragon.
What I like about Macrium (apart from it's simplicity) is the speed (3.5 min to backup my whole Win7 to an internal disk and 13 min to backup my system and my data partition to an external disk) and the small images (14.4GB for my system plus my data partitions - the system alone is 6.5GBs). My Ghost images are a multiple of that.
