System Restore never creates 'am system checkpoint'

My System Restore never automatically creates daily restore points like XP does with those daily 'AM system checkpoint' restore points. So everyday I have to remember to manually create one myself

What do you guys think about this?

Hi, have you checked the setting in "Control Panel" just to make sure it is enabled for your OS drive? :)

They also have daily Restore point in Vista and I was sure this was included in earlier builds but it seems they are only created now when installing or uninstalling programs or updates, if you want you can use one of Brinks tutorials that gives you a shortcut on your desktop so you can create an instant restore point.

If you are dual booting XP along with 7 each time you boot into XP the 7 points are being wiped automatically. Plus while 7 is still in beta it won't necessarily follow XP's options in particular where you end up needing to create your own manually or when installing an update or new program where one is created there.

I've been running into the same thing but multiboot with Vista along with XP and 7 here at times where XP comes to mind again on that. But the desktop shortcut idea simplifies things by seeing 4 new restore points created in under 4 minutes.

I'm not having the problem of wiped restore points, but I was just looking in task schedular at the Restore point task. It said that it runs a system start and that it ran sucessfully this morning, but when I check the list of available restore points, it is not listed.

Romulinx2 - Not sure what you mean? Am I sure System Restore is enabled? I use it everyday to manually create restore points, and often use the restore points for various reasons.

Mr Grim - This shortcut helps, but is still not automatic. I wonder if I could set Task Scheduler to run this shortcut.

Night Hawk - not dual booting. It does appear that automatic restore points are indeed not a feature included in this beta.

I can't be the only one experiencing this problem. I've uploaded a screenshot showing my task scheduler settings of System Restore. It should be creating restore points automatically, and it just simply is not doing it.

As you can see, it's set to run at midnight everyday. And it's set to run as soon as possible if it's delayed from the computer not being idle. Sometimes I'm awake after midnight watching movies or whatever on my pc, but I don't stay up and playing on my pc 24/7. The thing should run successfully at some point late at night.

I'll bet everybody has this same problem with build 7000, and I'm the only one that's found it. This always happens to me. I'm really diligent generally speaking about being prepared for things, and I always discover the failure points in systems before anyone else. It kind of sucks being me sometimes

The only restore points seen on the 7000 builds here are those made manually or by an installer. So far with the 32bit 7 Ultimate setup to boot with XP and Vista alike I also take notice if 7 points are lost as well as Vista's.

The next boot into XP will see if 7 is still vulnerable since I just made several more using the shortcut method. As far as the usual automatic creation of points you are not alone as I mentioned before about 7 still being a beta release not a finished version.

Right now it is simply a testing and evalution as well as development stage not a retail full featured version with everything working like you would see in XP or Vista presently. Too often people seem to forget that one little detail expecting to see a regular version ready for use when it's not ready until done and marketed.

    Hello.

This is the third system/OS (two different machines) that does not create restore points automatically; the first was an OEM HP machine with 32-bit Vista Home P, the second and third are this system with 64-bit Vista Ultimate and now Windows 7 7048 installed (none of the earlier builds did either); none of which ever creates restore points except when I create them with the afore mentioned tutorials.

There's also THIS to stop the XP dual boot delete of restore points.

Well, what about using that tutorial to create the shortcut, and then running the shortcut as a daily task in the task scheduler? Is that possible?
