Using backup on external drive after upgrade

Apologies beforehand. Just about to go to work so I didn't have time to look properly before posting this question.

I'm about to install win7 ultimate 64bit to replace the trial 32bit version I was using.
Will I be able to reinstall software backed-up on my external drive or will I need to redownload etc?

    Thanks

If you saved everything on an external the programs must be reinstalled. You will need the DVD, and key if required. That is the only drawback of a clean install, but it is worth the trouble many times over.
Everything else can be tranferred via the image.

If you are going from 32 to 64 there is no option you must do a clean install.

    Good luck

Thanks Richard. I can stop backing up everything so. The nightmare of redownloading begins tomorrow!

Are you saying that you have the program installers on an external drive? If you do then once you reinstall windows, you can use them to reinstall the programs. You don't need to download them again if you already have them

Check first to see if there are 64 bit versions of your Programs. If not, use installers saved in Downloads folder.

Remember to choose Save when downloading programs. That is what the Downloads folder is for.
