Question on Complete PC Backup Image Folder

I don't know if this has been asked already and sorry if it has.

Is there a way to save both Vista and Win7 complete system image on the same partition? If possible rename the folders at least (I tried this but didn't work)?

I have a limited space in my hard drive and allocated only one partition for system backups. I'm quite happy with Win7 and I would like to have both Vista and Win7 backups just in case. I'm also trying to avoid multiple DVDs as backup media as much as possible so that restoring the image would be easier for my kid when i'm not around.

I have tried this also. The best way I found is to go to Wal-Mart and get a 250GB external HD for $60 and just use it. It backs up about 100 GB of USED space on the Vista partition and 30 GB USED space on Win 7 partition (130 total USED space) and compresses it into about 59 GB on the external HD. Works well. Took about 45 min. I have done it twice now with two builds. Good luck finding your solution.

Edit: this new build just finished. It looks like it compressed it into 37 GB instead of 59 GB. That's an improvement if I am not missing anything,. It just now finished! That's a good thing. Maybe they have better compression in build 7077.

create a backup system image on cd?

Am I able to burn a system image on to a cd? if so, how many gbs does the cd need to be able to store on it? Will I need to use more than 1 cd to burn a system image? Also, when using the system image back up, does that delete everything off your computer and then reinstalls everything from the system back up image? and when i say delete everything from the computer, I don't mean just disable programs, yes the programs are there in there ready to use later. No i mean actually delete everything completely ( lets say for example I have yahoo messenger I downloaded and installed, but i use the system image back up and it deletes yahoo messenger off the computer completely. Not a single trace of it anywhere. I'm assuming its pretty similar or pretty much the same as a full restoration cd, which deletes everything off your computer and just reinstalls the OS system and nothing else right? except with this it does the same ( deletes everything ), but just installs whats on the back up system image right.?) or no.?
