    System restore works only manually

I googled everywhere and nothing helped. So I decided to ask you.

My system restore is on and have 3.5gb (3%) of space, but it wont make automatic restores, only if I make them manualy. I tried with restarting system restore, turned off and on again, tried with Av turned of....

    Please help.

Do you have it set to back up files as well as system info? If so, 3% may not be enough. 6% is about the norm. Also look at this HowTo:

System restore will only make an automatic point if none were made in the last 7 days.

, or if there is a critical update. Not sure whether they still make one when a program is being installed (as in Vista).

Whatever it does, the OP should be able to set it as desired with the tutorial listed. I know my W7 doesn't wait 7 days.

I cannot get into the mind or Microsoft, but it would be my opinion they they are trying to avoid a situation of too many points being made, at the same period of time; possibly erasing the older points, which may be needed in case of a restore.

Miles says that he does not have that situation, but I do and I think that, based upon his answer so does WHS. It appears to be a situation that others have, too, based upon the link that I left you.

Test it, make sure that you are set for every 7 days. Do not make any points for that period and see what happens.

My system creates a point when I install a new Program. It also automatically creates points. On XP I found Norton 360 interfered with the system restore.

Ok NOW I DOWNLOADED uPDATES AND INSTALLED THEM MANUALLY(They are not from auto updates, but from google-leaked) ,AND IT MAKES SYSTEM RESTORES POINTS. dONT KNOW WHY ,MEYBE COZ i MAKE SETTINGS SO IT MAKE IT DAILY OR COZ I INREASED TO 16% THATS 18.75GB AND NOW IT USING ALLREADY 1.01GB AFTER 4 UPDATES BEEING INSTALLED.

Now I dont know should i delete setting to make s. restore daily when computer is in idle. Coz Maybe it would make to much restore points. But as far as i know ,system restore should be made every time you install or uninstall program, or make any other changes.

Whenever changes are made to the OS, system restore will make a point. You cannot change this using user friendly methods.

My advice, leave defualt alone. I gave you a short cut to make more points, when you want them, see my first post.
