I Can't create system image - shadow size error

I have never done a system image before, and I can't understand why it's not working.

I have two fixed disks, (1.5 TB each) System is on 160GB partition, and I'm trying to save to the other partition (1.2TB) on the same fixed disk. Also, I have 100MB system reserved partition on the same disk. [would love to know if I can delete that]

The image is estimated to be 51GB.

I am getting this error: (uploaded attachment)
It basically says there is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location.

So I then try to save to the 2nd disk. But same error.

    Please advise.

If you delete this partition, your system will not boot any more. The Master Boot Record resides on that partition.

As far as imaging is concerned, the Windows7 facility seems to have its own mysteries. Half of the time it does not seem to work. That's why I use and teach free Macrium.

I have used Macrium's Reflect and I was able to create an image. Not sure about testing it, just hope if the time ever arises that it will work.

I usually make a test as follows (takes less than 30 minutes):

    1. I shrink 2GBs from C and create a 2GB partition
    2. I move some data into that partition - just anything
    3. I take an image of this partition
    4. I delete a file or folder from the partition
    5. I restore the partition from the image
    6. If the deleted file/folder is back, I know it worked.
    7. I delete the 2GB partition and return the space to C

With this process I test my recovery disk, learn the recovery process and gain confidence in my imaging process.

When I found this problem I made a imagem from SO partition, and formated, after restaured and get problems in boot cuz the computer didn't found the small partition used for system data.

So I use a 7 DVd bootable to repair and it works fine...

Yes, if you have the little 100MB partition where the MBR resides, you have to be careful. In that case you must NOT declare your C as active not must you restore the MBR when you pull the image in.

Okay, that sounds good. I'll have to try that, sometime later as I just got a ReadyNAS Duo and I'm playing with that.
