I am looking for information on system restore files

    Hello,

Does anyone know what files are used in the system restore in 7? I am use to working with XP due to work ( we have approx. 4000 machines in service). I use the ones from XP to manually restore machines all the time and it is a great time saver, just would like to find out what ones are used in vista/7 as we may be migrating to this soon. I know the ones used by XP are:

    default
    security
    software
    system
    sam

Anyone have a clue what the new ones are? I have not had the chance to look myself, was hoping someone would know.

Hello KABLEDOGG, welcome to the forums. I personally do not know the answer, and I'm sure this is true of those who have viewed your post so far. We are not ignoring you. Hopefully someone with superior knowledge will be along to help you, or if needed refer you to somewhere you can get help. A Guy

Files used are all the files that were included in the backup. I think you are talking about something else but am confused. can you be more specific?

he is talking about what areas are saved in a system restore. In XP it's:

    _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT
    _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY
    _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE
    _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM
    _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM

WIN + F1 | type System Restore | ENTER key

WIN is the key with the funny looking wavy flag on it.

Thanks everyone for replying, A Guy is correct I want to know what files are now being used to store the system restore files. I also want to know where windows is storing the backups to these files.
