Restore Windows Search?

Hi Folks,

A while back I somehow configured the windows search box at the bottom of the start menu to use Google Desktop Search by default (when I clicked Search Everywhere). I forget how I made that change, and I can't find it online. I'm now trying to figure out how to revert to using Windows Search again.

I went to "default programs" and set the Windows Search default to use Explorer, but now the "see more results" link goes to an explorer search window - it seems different than it was before I made the original change. Searches now are only coming up with directories.

Can anyone tell me how to restore my start menu box to use windows search like it was doing in the original install? Note that i've made some customizations to windows search indexing, so it'd be ideal if i didn't have to completely restore the indexing options. But if i have to, i have to. thanks!

A question like that is rather vague. You would have the best guest. Think about what you were doing. Look at the link that I sent you. Somehow you made the required changes

Sorry but that guide does not solve the problem. I followed all those steps and still when I hit the start button, type something into the search field and then click "Search Everywhere" my browser opens with Google Desktop results (which are empty).

I seem to be in some sort of situation where Google Desktop search is broken and refuses to index anything, but the fact that it exists prevents Windows Search from fully functioning as well. There must be some kind of registry entry that makes the "Search Everywhere" button default to hooking into Windows Search or a 3rd party app like Google Desktop. I'll see how I go tracking it down...

Apparently completely uninstalling Google Desktop can fix the problem, but I like using the GD sidebar, I just want to nuke the GD Search (because it's flaky), and use Windows Search, but keep the GD sidebar because I can't find a suitable replacement for the GD sidebar...
