Retrieving Win 7 from backup

A few inquires regarding back up retrieval:

I have backed up my Win 7 system since install. I recently had a psu problem and with no time to fix it myself, I gave it to a repair guy that came highly recommended. (oh boy) Well got it back fixed, only to find that this guy felt it was his job to clean my system! He changed all but my desktop image. Taking things such as iTunes, my X-Fi drivers and my entire music file out! Don't ask, I don't know why, other then he said they were infected. After 7 months of tweaking and refining my system it was gone in a flash!

I did purchase a WD 1tb hdd drive and have used this as the system and file back up, using windows back up. So, can I restore all as was from this? Please do tell, in some detail. Lord knows I would have been better fixing this with the help of my forums and now I know better.

Please know, I have also backed up another computer (laptop) w/ the same hdd. With that in mind, how do I also determine which file is for which computer?

Boot the WIn7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, select "Recover Using a System Image," it should autodetect the stored images on your system. Then you will have to determine which it is with the labeling and date given.

Be sure the file WindowsImageBackup is in the root of the drive for detection (out of its folder).

If necessary you can mount an image first in Disk Management to see its files.
Click Action tab, select Attach VHD. It will be mounted as a Virtual Drive.
