If you use free Macrium for imaging, your image will be appr. 55% of the data in your partition (not 55% of the partition size). Free Macrium, however, cannot make differentials which I hate anyhow because they represent an additional risk. With all the disk space you have, you should have no problem to keep a good selection of full images which would be appr. 55GBs each from your 100GBs of data on the partition.

Can someone please explain why and how you would change the location of your page file, and what is your page file?

    Regards.

It's basically a slice of your hard drive that Windows will use as needed if you are using up all of your RAM.

    Greater detail here:

Paging - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As for moving it, you wouldn't unless you are highly obsessive/compulsive about the last possible bit of performance. Unless you have a RAM shortage, it doesn't matter where it is. I'm sure someone can conjure up a reason why you have just GOT to fiddle with it, but most people just leave it alone and let Windows run the show.

So all it is is the technical or proper name for the bit of the HDD that gets used as ram if you lacking ram or you hybernate your pc.

Also does moving your files to other destinations to other locations increase your pc's speed? I have heard something about only using your C drive for you OS and programs,is this for performance or just to make back ups easier?

not much of a improvement, except it doesnt clutter the OS partition. it makes backups 100% easier.

Partitioning preferences are mostly habit--people tend to do what they have done in the past. Splitting a drive may appeal to one's sense of organization. It does have some advantages in backups and defragmenting speed. Hard drives are so much faster and cheaper than they were 10 years ago that I don't even think about any performance advantages. The disadvantage of multiple partitions is that you can end up with free space on the drive, but no free space on a particular partition.

I don't use Paragon, but I looked at my copy of Acronis.

Acronis has a checkbox for "sector by sector" imaging.

    Here is how it works:

My C partition is 60 gigs. 21 are occupied and 39 are unoccupied.

If sector by sector is checked, Acronis will make an image of the entire 60 GB.

If sector by sector is NOT checked, Acronis will make an image of ONLY the occupied 21 GB.

I don't check sector by sector.

Does Paragon have a similar checkbox? You may have it checked accidentally?

Here is what the Acronis help file says:

To make a sector-by-sector backup, check the Create an image using the sector-by-sector approach parameter. By default the program copies only the hard disk sectors that contain data. However, sometimes it might be useful to make a full sector-by-sector backup. For example, you have deleted some files by mistake and want to make a disk image before trying to undelete them, because sometimes un-deleting may create problems in the file system. Please note that this mode increases processing time and usually results in a larger image file because it copies used and unused hard disk sectors
Paragon doesn't have that feature. It simply says that I need to create an image backup and asks where I want it to be. I select my new HDD and the program informs me that the backup will use a MINIMUM of 60% of my (terrabyte!)drive.

The forum guru on this stuff is SIW2. He should see this post if it stays near the top somewhere as he is around regularly.

It is not worth moving it. There is very little to be gained.
