    Unusual IE8 Explorer History Entries

I am new to W7 and have noticed my IE Explorer history contains quite a few odd entries that are usually bracketed as follows { }. Within the { } are a seemingly random set of numbers and letters divided by dashes. For example {1234-AB12-YZ456789AB etc.}. Any ideas on what these are ?

Do you use any kind of third-party system cleaners, and did you ever clear your IE history this way before?

I would imagine that these are history entries that Windows/IE "forgot" about, meaning they're missing from the index.dat file...so the history no longer knows how to display them with their actual date/time and the link.

That's just an educated guess, but it's probably a harmless anomaly. Try clearing your history (properly, from the Internet Options control panel) and then observing if this happens again later on.

I have cleared history as you have said before and do not use any third party cleaners. I wondered if they were tracking cookies.? There seem to be a large number of them.

Some programs use IE to render HTML pages within the application (Outlook, for example), and then these pages show in the history of IE. It could be something like that, perhaps?

Aha, Creepin, you could well be right. I use Outlook a lot and quite a few emails require me to right click to download embedded pictures. It is quite likely that. I will check and see specifically if they appear fter such downloads. Thanks for the lead.

    Indeed Crepin,
I reckon you have solved my problem. I opened an email with such pictures, then went to a regular IE favourites site, then another email, then another site etc. and, sure enough, between eack known site, where I had opened an email, there were some of those strange history references. Many thanks - it had me worried.

Made me take a look at his system specs. Interesting mouse, PSU, cooling (I have the same fan), and other info.
