I'm not sure about this since I use Google Chrome now and not Firefox. I wouldn't be surprised though. Firefox seems to be more for customization than actual speed.

Im using FF 3.6.8 at the moment, I distrust IE after that whole hacking thing.
I also have Google chrome installed as a backup browser. In my experience, ive always found chrome to launch faster and to load webpages slightly faster. But again, usage is tracked by google, so i only use it if i have to.
Google does track your usage, but I don't think they can identify you with it as long as you don't allow check the box that says to send usage statistics to Google. If you do check that, then you send statistics that can identify you. If you don't check it, then you only send information that can't identify you.

It always seemed to me that Firefox was a little bit faster than all the other browsers, but nothing noticeable really... maybe a millisecond or so. The only reason I like Mozilla so much is that it's open source. I like a lot of the add-ons and themes you can get. :)

i use chrome because IE (any version) has had a lot of security problems. Please don't attack me because of that statement, i believe it to be true only because of it's market share or that most non-techies run it because it is built in. And is also often behind the other browsers in rendering pages correctly.

Also there are many projects that use chrome's source but remove the user tracking. i use personally use chromeplus

Ditto, Firefox is slow. About 5-10 seconds to load while IE 8 less than 2 seconds.
