Windows 7: Printer Friendly popups won't appear

19 Aug 2010   #11

There seems to be a HUGE difference in the way that IE8 behaves on XP Pro as opposed to win 7 Pro. My old laptop is operating flawlessly, however, the time had come to move on and I've got to get this new laptop working for me.

I have been continuing to experience sporadic "issues" that culminated just now in my installing Firefox 3.6 as my default browser. Doing that has finally resolved my problem with printerly friendly buttons. Sad that it had to come to this point but I will keep IE8 around for any websites that object to Firefox.

I haven't come across that issue with IE8 but somtimes it's necessary to use the "compatibility view" feature of IE8 to fix wierd problems. I think it's Microsoft's attempt to move to open standards and nudge websites to fix themselves so that their users won't have to use the compatibility view button.

The point of my last post was that IE8 running on XP Pro did NOT have those "issues" with those very same websites. Apparently, something is dramatically different with IE8 running on Win 7 Pro. At the same time, I have a VERY hard time believing that the websites for two (2) major Canadian banks would be dabbling in the wing-nut areas of web programming. The Canadian banking system has only a tiny fraction of the number that is present in the USA but consider that the smallest of the Canadian banks is likely bigger (and vastly more stable) than over 50% of the US banks.
