    IE8 dosen't save downloads

i have a problem with ie and it saving my downloads

for example when i click on a download link (or right click -> save as), the download windows pops up, percentage goes to 100%, but when i go to my desktop my download is not there.

i am running win7 RC and the version of ie that came with it. and no 'just use firefox/chrome/safari' or any other firefox/chrome/safari' related "suggestions". i do use firefox sometimes.

does anyone have any clue as to whats going on?

Try downloading again and make sure the dialog box is pointing to the Desktop. By default it points to the Temp folder.

By the way, when it finishes do you click "Run" or "Open" (whatever the case may be)? And does it run or open?

by default it shows 'desktop' and if i point it to the desktop shortcut under th favorite links it still doesn't save. and i have the check box checked that says 'close this dialog box when download is complete'

    *edit*
i just tried downloading something again (it was an HTML file) and it did show up on the desktop but then disappeared as soon a it showed up

Do you have desktop icons disabled (or hidden)? Is this on a standalone machine or on a machine attached to a domain? Can you not find the file anywhere? Have you searched for the file all over your HD? Have you tried disabling any AV software that is running to check and see if it is interfering?

nope desktop icons not disabled (i would have figured that out right away). it is a standalone machine. i haven't tried searching my HDD. and i have AVG 8.5 since installing win7 rc and it didn't effect it. this only started two days ago.

Search the HDD and report back if it is found -0 I suspect that either you have 2 'desktop' folders, only one of which is the 'real' desktop, or else you have some sort of weird (perhaps faulty) AV / AM software that is moving stuff without your permission....

    That is what I suspect.

I just started experiencing this too. This started yesterday. I searched for a few of the files but nothing is showing up in the search. Has anyone seen this before?

i searched my hole hdd for the files, found nothing. the only AV software i am running is avg. i also have ad-aware and spybot running but i have turned all three off while trying to download.

i just tried to download a zip file from my windows live sky drive and the download window just closed. no 100%, 5%, nothing. i even had the check box set to not close on completion. i now suspect some sort of malware. i'll do a scan later and report back. and if all fails, repair windows
