WOW!! Only registered two days and already months of help. The first problem I had was the Test Mode message that appeared on my desktop. I had trouble the first time but Shawn recognized my error and a second try to care of the problem. The second problem was a recurrence of one I had yesterday repeated. I could open Outlook Hotmail but could not open the emails from any folder. Instead of going back to the Win 7 forum I Googled the problem and selected what I was lead to believe was an MS help site. Long story short, the site I selected was not an MS site and even though I asked if it was the only answer I got from the tech was, "Yes, I am an MS trained technician." After identifying over 35,000 problems and 95 trojans, he finally said that he could fix them all FOR A FEE. I hung up and did contact a tech support outfit I had paid dearly for. After three or four hours, he did get rid of the problems and trojans I think the first guy installed. This morning I had the same problem with Outlook Hotmail and having learned my lesson went directly to the Win 7 Forum where I promptly found a solution to the problem. The solution was to deleted an update: KB670838. I deleted it and after rebooting, the problem was gone. I did notice one thing, IE 10 had been installed before I had the first problem with Hotmail, and I didn’t intentionally install it. After deleting the update and restarting, my browser was IE 9.

Sometimes, the port numbers change, and you might need to update your settings to the current ones. If nothing has changed, and all your settings are correct according to the website, then it might possibly be an issue at their end as opposed to a problem on your machine. Try accessing your emails through the web interface instead of your email client for a while. Although the web interface will allow you to send and receive emails, it is usually only a basic interface offering limited functionality. Because of this, keep checking the client so that you can resume using it when service is restored.
