    Inbox subfolders not expanding automatically

    Howdy,

I was hoping that some kind soul would have an answer to this problem. I am new to Windows Live Mail, and Windows 7, so I hope I haven’t overlooked anything obvious.

When I receive an email message, I hear the "bee-do" sound when it arrives. However, the inbox folders which I have set-up, and linked to message rules, do not automatically expand to show the presence of a new message. Nor do I get a "(1)" beside "unread email", or "unread from contacts" at the top.

I do get the “(1)” after I expand the relevant folder manually. But if they are collapsed, and if I don't hear the sound, I often miss the email. Moreover, when I do go to the folder that contains the email, it does not go to the unread message automatically – the last message I read in that folder is still highlighted. That would seem to be related, but I’m not sure how to fix it.

I have, of course, checked the box "automatically display folders with unread messages" under tools>options

    TIA for any suggestions,

    Andrew,
    Ontario

That seems to be how it works in WLM which is different from WM. All we can do is hope they will fix it for the next version (Wave 4) now in Beta. As a workaround, instead of depending on the "auto display" feature, just keep those folders likey to receive mail always displayed.

    Thanks

Thanks, Roncerr, for replying. At least now I know it is, unfortunatley, standard behaviour for VLM. Cheers, Andrew, Ontario
