Want hotmail to open from messenger again

Hello, I was always able to access my hotmail from the envelope icon on my windows messenger. Then I discovered that the name change that I did that showed on my messenger profile did not change when I sent an email from hotmail. So then I went to MSN and did something on the options and something else in windows live mail. ( I never used Windows Live Mail before) Now when I click theenvelope icon on my messenger it opens as windows live mail. I managed to make hotmail the default one in windows live, but I dont' even want to see windows live-except when it pops up when I go to email someone on the web.

How can I just get my windows messenger to open directly to hotmail again? i've looked at every option box I can find.

Thank you.

I removed windows live mail from windows essentials in control panel after looking it up here. I wasn't even aware that I had somehow installed it. I just tried to change my name in my hotmail account. Anyway it's gone and hotmail is back (with wrong name still in sent emails and right name appearing on account) and hopefully nothing vital is missing. Just in case anyone else has this happen.
