    Hi,
    vicvic

You can Import your old emails into Windows Live Mail.

It would be great if you could tell us from which version of outlook you want to import.

What is the Operating System you are using on your's mother's system?
What was the previous outlook version you have on your system?
Have to taken Backup of those mails and saved to your harddisk?
Or Do you want to download mails from Gmail?

Anyways here i am providing you with few steps for configuring gmail with windows live mail.

If you have already configured please check the settings once again.

    Steps:

If you want to use POP3 Server please click the below link
Windows Live Mail configuration and setup of Gmail account

Note: Incoming Server Name: pop3.gmail.com Port No:995
Outgoing Server Name: smtp.gmail.com Port No:465

If you want to use IMAP Server please click the below link
Setup Gmail in Windows Live Mail (Gmail Email Account Setup)

Note: Incoming Server Name: imap.gmail.com Port No:993
Outgoing Server Name: smtp.gmail.com Port No:465

You cannot import mails directly from outlook to windows live mail. You can import from outlook express to windows live mail.

I am giving an example of "How to import messages from Windows mail to Windows Live mail"
    Please find the below link:
Windows Live Mail - Import Windows Mail Messages

Please tell us if you have any difficulties in importing emails. Also Please provide with complete information.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Nikhil.N
